Sleep

Getting a good night's rest will help you relax during your appointment. It also helps your body recover more quickly. You may also be more sensitive to pain if you're sleep-deprived, making your tattoo feel more painful than it would normally.

Shower

Keep your soon-to-be-tattooed area clean before your appointment. Dead skin cells, sweat, and dirt build up on your skin throughout the day. If you haven't showered, you could increase the chance of these particles getting into the tattooed area, causing an infection. Plus, showering will do everyone at the studio a favor—no one wants to sit next to someone who just returned from an intense workout for several hours.

Eat

Eat a balanced meal before your appointment. If you don't, you may become lightheaded during your session, which could lead to many other problems. It's also a good idea to bring snacks with you, especially if you're getting a detailed tattoo that may take several hours to complete. I do provide water and snacks, but just in case bring some of your favorites. If you can, avoid excessive dairy products or sugar, as these foods can make you feel bloated. Not only does bloating make you feel sick and tired, but it expands your skin and could affect how the ink adheres to your skin.

Tip: Take some extra vitamin C. It's great for your skin and will promote the healing process.

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water before getting your tattoo. Hydrated skin accepts ink better, creating a sharper and more vibrant tattoo. It can also help your skin heal faster. Shoot to drink at least a half gallon of water within 24 hours of your appointment. You'll also want to avoid heavily caffeinated drinks like coffee, as these are dehydrating. Also, avoid energy drinks. They'll make you jittery, which will make it harder to stay still while your artist works.

Prepare Your Skin

Moisturize the area using an alcohol-free lotion once or twice a day for the week leading up to your appointment. If the place you want your tattoo is hairy, you'll want to shave it two or three times before getting work done. Also, protect the area as much as possible from cuts, burns, scrapes, or bruises. If you have a cut or bruise where you'll eventually want your tattoo, allow it to heal for at least a week before getting inked.

Avoid Alcohol

Avoiding alcohol should be bolded, uppercased, and circled on your "before you get a tattoo" checklist—whatever you need to do to remember not to do it. It isn't just about making a wrong design choice that you'll regret later. You could face serious health complications if you drink too much before getting your tattoo. Alcohol is a temporary blood thinner, and drinking could lead to excessive bleeding. Not good at all! If that wasn't enough, drinking might dilute the ink and make your body art appear faded.

Over-the-counter pain relievers like Tylenol or Advil have the same effect—don’t use them before your appointment.

Protect Area from the Sun

Getting a tattoo with a sunburn is not fun and makes the healing process take longer. Plus, tanning dries out your skin, which isn't great for you or your tattoo. Apply extra sunscreen on the area that will be tattooed if you'll be outside for long hours before your appointment.

Wear Proper Attire

A tattoo studio is not the place to show off your newest, skin-tight designer dress.

Wear loose-fitting clothing where your body artist can easily access the area you'd like tattooed. Keep in mind that you'll be sitting in the same position for a significant amount of time. Comfort is key! Wear something you don’t mind getting dirty, too. You’re creating an open wound that may bleed and ooze, which may get onto your clothing.

FOR OMBRE POWDER BROWS

In order to achieve the best brow results, it is important that you follow these pre-care instructions. Failing to do so can affect the way your brows will heal and the way they will look. Permanent cosmetic enhancements typically will require more than one application session. To achieve the best results, it is highly recommended that you return for at least one touch-up session four to eight weeks after the initial session.

DO NOT

-Do not consume alcohol or caffeine 24-48 hours prior to your appointment. This includes soda, coffee, energy drinks, tea, etc. (Will thin out your blood.)

-Do not take fish oil, vitamin e, aspirin, ibuprofen, or pain relievers. (They are blood thinners.)

-Avoid any types of facials, botox, injections at least one month prior to your appointment.

-Do not workout the day of your appointment.

You may come with a full face of makeup and apply false lashes on, as we will be taking lots of pictures and videos. This is highly encouraged but not mandatory.

A few days before your appointment it is recommended that you drink plenty of water to hydrate the skin. Exfoliate your face to remove any dead skin cells and use a moisturizer. You are the canvas and I am the painter! Prep that canvas!

FOR LIP BLUSH

Avoid alcohol and caffeine 24 hours prior to your appointment. It can cause bruising because the lips are such a delicate area. If you are someone who regularly gets cold sores, it is recommended to take cold sore medication (like Valtrex) three days before and three days after your lip blush appointment. If you use products like Vitamin C serums or retinoids, it is recommended that you take a break from these two weeks prior to your appointment. Women who have lip fillers can get lip blush, however, fillers should be done at least six weeks prior to the lip blush appointment for the best results. Exfoliate your lips the day before and use a balm or moisturizer to help keep the surface of your lips smooth and fresh on the day of your appointment.

DURING YOUR PROCEDURE

At your appointment, I will explain what the process is like, consent forms will be signed, shape mapping will be done, color selection and swatches performed, and then be prepared to fall asleep!

Many of my clients are surprised to find out that the procedure is painless! I will say that you will feel the outline and the first pass of shading, but this can be compared to light scratches or tweezing out hair. After the first pass of shading, I apply the numbing gel and most of my clients don't feel a thing and end up falling asleep.

I do recommend dressing comfortably as you will be lying down for 2-3 hours. I highly recommend a little bit of eye makeup and/or wearing false eyelashes because I will be taking lots of photos and videos. Some of these, not all, end up on my social media page as advertisements.

AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

Be prepared for the color intensity to be very dark and bold after the procedure. This will subside and become softer as the skin heals.

There might be some redness and swelling- this will go away within a couple of hours. If you are more on the sensitive side then I recommend taking Tylenol for any soreness you may experience.

The healing process involves scabbing, flaking, and some itchiness. This is completely normal. Trust the process!

You will be sent home with aftercare instructions and an aftercare package.

The video below shows exactly what the brow healing process is like. One of my client's took photos of her brows every day and now it is a useful video for potential clients. Keep in mind that average healing time is 7 days, but sometimes skin can take up to 14 days to heal.

LONG TERM CARE

The sun can damage and fade your eyebrow area. Take care of your eyebrows by investing in good sunscreen.

If you decide to donate blood within a year after your procedure, notify the national blood service beforehand as this can affect your ability to donate.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Permanent makeup is NOT a science. Results vary per client and using a pencil or powder will/may still be needed.

Everyone's skin heals and accepts pigment differently. We provide the same service to each of our clients. Aftercare, lifestyle, and client's skin type plays a huge role in the outcome.

There are NO GUARANTEES made as to how your skin will heal. This is a risk all clients must be willing to take when consenting to this procedure.

Please have realistic expectations as nobody's face is perfectly symmetrical. Eyebrows can never be exactly identical due to our bone structure not being symmetrical to begin with but we will get them as even as possible using the correct measurements.

For the most part, getting this procedure done means low maintenance, not no maintenance.

After the initial 14 days, the color you have chosen will fade and begin to appear more natural.

Typically, healing should take up to about 14 days, though this can vary case by case due to the fact that some may take longer due to stress, a poor diet, or their immune system being compromised.

Uneven color after the initial treatment is completely normal. In order to ensure the best outcome, we recommend a second session to achieve the desired result.

The cost of future touchups is determined by the time frame you return from your last appointment.
